Public Comment Sought on Plans for Proposed Six-Mile Trail from Utica to Schuyler.

The New York State Canal Corporation will hold a public information meeting on Thursday, May 17, 2007 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Schuyler Town Hall, 2090 State Route 5 in Schuyler to allow the public to review and comment on preliminary plans for development of a six-mile Canalway Trail segment between Utica and Schuyler in Oneida and Herkimer counties.

The project will begin at Genesee Street in Utica and extend to Lock 19 in Schuyler. An overview of the proposed project will be provided by Canal Corporation representatives and the project design consultants. Individuals, groups, officials and local agencies are invited to comment on these proposals.

During the first half hour there will be an Open House, providing the opportunity to view the project plans in an informal setting. An overview of the project will then be provided by Canal Corporation representatives and the project design consultants followed by a question and answer period.

The project is part of a program to complete the Erie Canalway Trail linking the Hudson River and Lake Erie. More than two-thirds of the 348-mile Erie Canalway Trail is now complete.

For more information or if a sign language interpreter, assistive listening system, or any other accommodation will be required to facilitate participation in this meeting, please contact the New York State Canal Corporation at (518) 436-3055.
