Utica is located between Ilion and Marcy and is a unique place along the canal. The Utica Harbor Lock (closed) is the only lock along the canal system which is not used directly for navigation. This lock gives access to the Utica Harbor (closed) which once served the booming city of Utica. Hopefully someday things will change so people can explore Utica and all its attractions.
Utica Harbor and Lock
The harbor is going though revitalization efforts now and will hopefully one day be a place to visit. The lock is a unique in more than not being directly on the canal, its upper gate in not a miter gate, rather it is a drop guard-gate style.
The only place to access Utica is by stopping at the Utica Historical Marina, also the site of restaurant Aqua Vino (formerly Kitty's on the Canal). This publicly owned facility features numerous amenities including water, power and restrooms. Downtown Utica is a reasonably far walk, but for those with bikes is a nice ride.
